What is a freehold
Freehold is a description of the tenure under which title to a property is held. ‘Freehold’ is a legal term for the way that an owner holds the property. It is one of the two ways of owning land at law (technically called 'an estate in fee simple absolute in possession'). The other is for a fixed term of years, commonly called 'a lease' or 'leasehold'. With freehold land the owner owns the property/land outright subject only to any mortgages, charges, easements, covenants etc. shown by the deeds.
For the purposes of at a glance understanding it means the right to own or hold the property indefinitely (without regard to time).
